We are a registered charity dedicated to providing eyecare services to those without the funds necessary or without access to proper care. We exist because of the hardwork and dedication of hundreds of volunteers and thousands of hours of fundraising, since 1981.
CVC is proud to have created a structure where the 3 O's (Optometry, Ophthalmology and Opticianry) work together to deliver thorough, comprehensive and integrated care in the developing world.
All of our work is funded, through private donations and through our partner eyecare organizations.
Who We Are....
Some Of Our Projects...
"The SEEcan"
Canadian Vision Care supporters, led by Dr. Allan Jones of Calgary. Created a 'pop-up' clinic in a seacan and sent it to Malawi. The container was filled with eye care equipment, furniture, windows, flooring, everything needed to create a permanent eyecare clinic. Within days of its arrival, the clinic was up and running - serving patients.
It even contained a collection of bicycles to be used by optometry students to get to where they needed to go.
Academic Vision Center - Malawi

Canadian Vision Care (CVC) is an Alberta based NGO that offers eye care services and treatments to people worldwide. In Malawi, Africa, the Academic Vision Centre (AVC) is operated jointly by CVC and the Mzuzu Hospital. Satellite Optometry clinics have been set up by CVC throughout Malawi.
The AVC is a training clinic for students from the adjoining University of Mzuzu Optometry School as well as for students from the Malawi College of Health Sciences in Lilongwe. The Center is also used for training nursing students.
For many years, Canadian Optometrists have volunteered their time at the AVC, working along side graduate optometrists, professors and the local ophthalmologists, to mentor students. CVC has equipped the clinic with highly specialized ophthalmic instruments to enhance the students education and clinical skills. In a country of 21 million people there are fewer than 300 eye care professionals to service this population. Thus, these partnerships will, in time, transform eye care access in Malawi, expanding and sustaining the delivery of eye care across the country.
Eye care through CVC is offered to all Malawians free of charge. More recently, an optical dispensary has been added to the AVC that will provide eyewear for those in need. The AVC presently sees over 10,000 patients per year.
